Keyword Data for TRAFFIC’s Extended Domain Name Auction

There are over 5,000 domain names in TRAFFIC's Extended Domain Auction. If you're a potential buyer, that's a lot of domains to sort through in a short amount of time. I decided to trim the list down and run the names through Google's Adwords Tool to try and isolate the domains that have solid numbers in search volume and CPC values.

First, I kept all the .com's and removed all other tld's. There are some fine names in alternative tld's in the extended auction but I really wanted to confine this list to the .com extension. Second, I wanted to try and create a list that would apply to a large group of domain buyers so I removed the high reserve domains, specifically any domain that was initially priced at $10,000 or higher.

I was left with a list of nearly 4,000 kewyord .com domain names with a reserve price of $10,000 and under. Many of them had reserves as low as $300. The last step was to patiently extract the keywords for each domain and run them through the Google Adwords Tool to find the top domains in terms of monthly Google search volume and average cost per click values. I've listed the results below.

There you have it. From a development standpoint, these are some of the best values you'll find in the extended auction. Internet users are actively searching for the keywords that make up these domains plus it's advantageous to build sites around topics with plenty of advertisers paying top dollar to get visitors.

Available Domains from April 12th Drop

35 domain names from my watchlist made it through and became available after the April 12th domain drop. There are some really high search volume metrics on some of these namely 90,500 for DrivingVideoGame.com, 49,500 for both SkateboardingEquipment.net and StaffInfection.net, and 22,200 for LuggageSet.net

Highest average PPC values go to HiltonHeadRental.net at $4.42 and FlagstaffHouses.net at $3.57. As always, a park and pray stategy will not likey pay off on these domains but a modest development plan should reward you with some nice earnings in the long run. Please limit your domain registrations to 5 domains per list. Happy Domaining!

Dropped Domains for April 2nd

Until recently, I've always limited my domain drop list research to the .com extension. The main reason for this was that I was primarily interested in domain reselling and the .com extension was what a majority of domain investors wanted. Limiting my research to .com also saved me hours of work scanning through the .net, .org and other domain drop lists.

Lately I've been concentrating more on development so I've also started mining the .net drop lists. Today I picked up PasadenaProperty (dot) net for reg fee. Fact is, there are a lot more high search volume, "exact match" keyword domains dropping in the .net extension than in .com. It stands to reason as "category killer" .com's generally don't become available. For the purpose of development, with a focus on gaining traffic through organic search engine results, a "category killer" keyword .net can fill the role very nicely.

Sure, I'll lose some "type in" traffic to my .com counterpart but the money saved in acquisition costs can be used towards content development and promotion. If you create a continuing flow of organic search traffic, you'll have a domain asset providing residual income that's likely to exceed that of the undeveloped .com's "type in" traffic by a large amount. Just something to ponder for those of us wanting to develop, but don't have thousands of dollars to throw at keyword "category killer" .com domains.
