Keyword Domain Name Sale at SnapNames.com

I've always been a domain flipper at heart. I've only owned a handful of domains for more than a years time. Mostly the ones that I swore I'd get around to developing one day. At one point, my partner and I owned 10,000 keyword dot .com's. I'd spend hours scanning the drop lists for the best keyword domains and we'd pluck 30 to 50 of them each day. We'd accumulate thousands of them and turn around and sell them in bulk in the $25 to $40 range.

Those were the good old days, actually only about two years ago, but it seems longer than that. That business model stopped working when the economy went down the toilet. Don't get me wrong, you can still flip domains for profit but it's not nearly as easy as a few years back when a  number of investors were buying up large portfolios. Now you have to scratch and claw to sell a hundred domains in a month. It's work, hard work.

I decided to try something new, something a bit risky that might get my adrenalin flowing again. I've slowed down my buying but have still managed to acquire about 300 keyword domains over the past year. I usually list these domains on SnapNames at a $39 starting price and do fairly well. However, I want to move a lot of them so I can turn over my inventory and buy more domains. I always enjoy doing that. I thought a $15 starting price might do the trick.

The following domains are on auction at SnapNames.com for a $15 starting price. Nearly all of them have a respectable amount of Google search volume on the terms that make up the domain. I wouldn't have bought them if they didn't. All auctions end on Tuesday, July 28th.

Keyword Data for TRAFFIC’s Extended Domain Name Auction

There are over 5,000 domain names in TRAFFIC's Extended Domain Auction. If you're a potential buyer, that's a lot of domains to sort through in a short amount of time. I decided to trim the list down and run the names through Google's Adwords Tool to try and isolate the domains that have solid numbers in search volume and CPC values.

First, I kept all the .com's and removed all other tld's. There are some fine names in alternative tld's in the extended auction but I really wanted to confine this list to the .com extension. Second, I wanted to try and create a list that would apply to a large group of domain buyers so I removed the high reserve domains, specifically any domain that was initially priced at $10,000 or higher.

I was left with a list of nearly 4,000 kewyord .com domain names with a reserve price of $10,000 and under. Many of them had reserves as low as $300. The last step was to patiently extract the keywords for each domain and run them through the Google Adwords Tool to find the top domains in terms of monthly Google search volume and average cost per click values. I've listed the results below.

There you have it. From a development standpoint, these are some of the best values you'll find in the extended auction. Internet users are actively searching for the keywords that make up these domains plus it's advantageous to build sites around topics with plenty of advertisers paying top dollar to get visitors.

Wholesale.net Up for Auction

Wholesale.net is currenty up for auction on Ebay and with less than 24 hours left the bidding has reached $9,100. Wholesale.net has an unkown reserve price which hasn't been met. The domain is registered at Moniker using privacy services. The registration dates back to October 1995 with a very active history at Archive.org.

I often wonder if these reserve eBay domain name listings are only created to generate interest in the domain name. PaintballGuns.com was listed on eBay a few weeks back and while bidding did reach $50,000, the reserve was not met and the domain did not sell. However, I'm willing to bet that auction has stirred up interest and follow up offers have been made since the auction closed. That's a lot of exposure for the price of an eBay listing fee with a reserve.

You'll find the Ebay listing below. I find it odd the seller used what I assume is a self portrait as the photo. What, no logo for a domain of this caliber?

UPDATE: The bidding for wholesale.net reached $13,250 but did not reach the reserve price.
