Dropped Domains for April 2nd

Until recently, I've always limited my domain drop list research to the .com extension. The main reason for this was that I was primarily interested in domain reselling and the .com extension was what a majority of domain investors wanted. Limiting my research to .com also saved me hours of work scanning through the .net, .org and other domain drop lists.

Lately I've been concentrating more on development so I've also started mining the .net drop lists. Today I picked up PasadenaProperty (dot) net for reg fee. Fact is, there are a lot more high search volume, "exact match" keyword domains dropping in the .net extension than in .com. It stands to reason as "category killer" .com's generally don't become available. For the purpose of development, with a focus on gaining traffic through organic search engine results, a "category killer" keyword .net can fill the role very nicely.

Sure, I'll lose some "type in" traffic to my .com counterpart but the money saved in acquisition costs can be used towards content development and promotion. If you create a continuing flow of organic search traffic, you'll have a domain asset providing residual income that's likely to exceed that of the undeveloped .com's "type in" traffic by a large amount. Just something to ponder for those of us wanting to develop, but don't have thousands of dollars to throw at keyword "category killer" .com domains.
